The crystalline, white powder dissolves very easily in water. However, in dissolved form it is not stable for long and decomposes under the influence of oxygen and heat. Nevertheless, vitamin C in homemade care, made in small quantities and consumed fresh, can be a very useful agent. It stimulates collagen formation and stabilizes the barrier layer. In high doses, vitamin C can be used with its synergist vitamin E against age spots and acne.
 
Vitamin C, dissolved in a little cold water, is stirred into the cooled emulsion. The pH value should be < 5.5. Chemically, vitamin C is ascorbic acid, i.e. vitamin C as an acid itself also ensures a reduction in pH.
