The multifunctional and very skin-compatible Pentylene Glycol Green, also known as 1,2 Pentanediol, is a colorless, viscous liquid that is water-soluble and easy to process. Unlike conventional Pentylene Glycol, Pentylene Glycol Green is based entirely on renewable raw materials (sugar bagasse/corn). It is therefore also suitable for natural cosmetics. Pentylene Glycol Green is free of palm oil.
 
Its excellent effect as a humectant is comparable to that of glycerin, but without creating a feeling of "stickiness" at higher concentrations. In addition, it also acts as a solubilizer or wetting agent and is of interest to the user because of its pH-independent, good antimicrobial properties. Thanks to its amphiphilic structure, Pentylene Glycol Green can lower the surface tension between the water and oil phases, thereby supporting the emulsion process. The use of Pentylene Glycol Green thus promotes the formation of smaller droplet (particle) sizes and a narrower droplet size (particle size) distribution in oil-in-water emulsions. As a result, this leads to greater emulsion stability and often a more pleasing texture. In this way, Pentylene Glycol Green also helps to increase the bioavailability of active ingredients or to increase the efficiency of preservatives or organic acids with a preservative effect (preservative booster).
 
In sunscreen formulations, Pentylene Glycol Green improves their water resistance.
 
If the preservation of a formulation is to be based on Pentylene Glycol Green alone, it must be noted that its effect against fungi and yeasts is only moderate. The feed concentration should then be between 5 and 7%, but at least 5%.
