Established in natural cosmetics, Multifunctional 1388 ECO combines moisturizing glycerin with the two fragrance components known from nature, anisic and levulinic acid. These fragrances can mask unwanted odors from other raw materials without affecting the actual fragrance. However, this product is made more interesting by the antimicrobial properties of anisic and levulinic acid, which allow conventional preservatives to be replaced by Multifunctional 1388 ECO, which is kind to the skin. Multifunctional 1388 ECO is very effective against fungi, and bacteria and good against yeasts. Since the anisic and levulinic acids are present in the form of their water-soluble sodium salts, Multifunctional 1388 ECO can be easily incorporated into the water phase. To release the product-stabilizing active ingredients anisic and levulinic acid, the pH of the finished product is finally adjusted to a value below 5.5.
 
Multifunctional 1388 ECO is certified according to Ecocert. Since anise acid found in anise oil and levulinic acid derived from fructose are not preservatives according to cosmetic regulations, corresponding formulations are considered preservative-free.
