Glyceryl stearate should not be confused with the self-emulsifying glyceryl stearate SE. Unlike the latter, glyceryl stearate contains no alkaline soap and does not act as an emulsifier. Glyceryl stearate is a co-emulsifier that helps give O/W emulsions consistency and thus acts as a stabilizer. This white to beige powder is 100% plant-based and is melted to be incorporated into the oil phase. Excellent results—pleasantly light and moisturizing creams and lotions—are achieved by combining glycerin stearate, Lanette O, and the mild emulsifier sodium stearoyl lactylate.
