Glyceryl stearate is not to be confused with the self-emulsifying glyceryl stearate SE. Unlike the latter, glyceryl stearate does not contain any alkali soap and does not act as an emulsifier. Glyceryl stearate is a co-emulsifier that helps to give consistency to O/W emulsions and thus has a stabilising effect. The white to beige powder is 100% vegetable and is melted into the oil phase for incorporation. Very nice results, pleasantly light and moisturising creams and lotions, are achieved by combining glyceryl stearate, Lanette O and the mild emulsifier sodium stearoyl lactylate.
