Sagefoam oil, refined
INCI: Limnanthes alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil
Characteristic features:
- Rich in fatty acids with a chain length of 20 or more carbon atoms
- Consists mainly of the unusual fatty acids:
- Eicosenoic acid (C20:1)
- Docosenoic acid (C22:1)
- Docosadienoic acid (C22:2)
- The special composition gives the oil a particularly high oxidative stability
- Meadowfoam oil is usually refined because it has a very distinctive odor in its unrefined state
Areas of application:
In cosmetics:
- Due to the long-chain fatty acids, the oil does not penetrate deeply into the skin, but they form a protective film without being occlusive. This explains the oil's moisture-retaining effect on the skin.
- Meadowfoam oil leaves a silky-smooth, non-greasy feeling on the skin. This, and its absorption properties, are similar to jojoba oil.
- Very suitable for normal to dry skin
- Use as a base oil in mixtures with oxidation-sensitive active oils rich in linolenic acid, such as rosehip seed oil, evening primrose oil, borage seed oil
- It spreads very little and is therefore very suitable for eye care products; it can also be used in hair care products
-Use in topical applications such as ointments and creams
