This anionic, sulfate-free surfactant—which is used in solid soaps (syndets and combobars) and/or shampoo bars due to its excellent foaming and foam stability, and especially because of its low solubility in water—is exceptionally mild and very gentle on the skin.
 
However, since sodium cocoyl isethionate (SCI) retains its excellent foaming properties even in hard water and, in addition to its good cleansing action, also has a pleasant conditioning effect on the hair, it is highly recommended for shampoos and shower gels.
 
As the primary surfactant, SCI produces a creamy, dense lather and leaves the skin feeling soft, smooth, and silky. A key advantage is that the SCI is supplied here as a fine, nearly salt-free powder. In this powder form, it dissolves more readily in water than pellets, chunks, or other coarser forms. This Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate is derived from coconut oil and is highly biodegradable.

Usage concentration:
 
1–20% as a co-surfactant
 
10–60% as the primary surfactant

Processing:
 
In liquid detergents, the powdered SCI must be dissolved in hot water using additional surfactants or solvents, as it is very poorly soluble on its own.
