Clary sage (Salvia sclarea L.) belongs to the Lamiaceae plant family and was already appreciated by Hildegard von Bingen as a medicinal herb. It is said to aid digestion, and relieve loss of appetite, but also to have stress-relieving, antidepressant, and aphrodisiac properties. Winegrowers planted it between the vines to aromatize the wines.
 
The scent is rather floral tart with hints of citrus. It combines well with sandalwood or citrus scents.
 
The essential oil smoothes wrinkles and helps heal rashes and eczema. The plant ester linalyl acetate is considered a crucial active ingredient for regulating inflammation and disturbed lipid balance in dry skin.
