Litsea Cubeba (botanical name: Litsea cubeba) is an essential oil obtained by steam distillation from the pepper-like fruit of the May Chang tree, a laurel plant. The refreshing and stimulating top note stands out with a fine and somewhat floral citrus scent. The high content of the monoterpene aldehyde citral of 70-85% gives the oil an antiviral effect. The downside, however, is that the oil is also irritating to the skin in too high a concentration. The essential oil should therefore only be used in highly diluted form. The naturally pure essential oil comes from China.
