The witch hazel plant is also known to many as the "witch hazel shrub". The extract of the shrub, which blooms in winter, contains mainly tannins. These are known for their astringent effect and provide - with the support of some flavonoids - the anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and wound-healing properties of the extract.

Witch hazel extract is therefore suitable for use on skin inflammations, irritations, and injuries (minor cuts, minor burns/sunburns, abrasions) as well as bruises, insect bites, and the symptoms of neurodermatitis.

1 kilogram of the extract prepared with glycerin contains the hydrophilic ingredients of 900 g of fresh witch hazel leaves from controlled organic cultivation.
